Anna Szprynger

Anna Szprynger (b. 1982 in Warsaw) is a painter and photographer, counted today among the leaders of the newest Polish art and described as a continuator of the tradition of the avant-garde geometric abstractionists. She studied graphic art and painting at the College of Fine Arts in Kazimierz Dolny and at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (diploma with distinction), and in 2014 she defended her doctorate at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Dorota Grynczel. She has over 30 solo and over 60 group exhibitions to her name.

Szprynger's basic means of expression is the line: thin, repeated lines organise the field of the picture, building the rhythm and structure of the composition. The artist is recognisable above all by her precise paintings, in which on black canvases - with thin brushes of size 000 - she „scatters sheaves of white light”; her lines, vibrant with rhythm and colour, are sometimes compared to an „exotic alphabet”. She uses a limited palette and develops in parallel a photographic practice, treated as a symbiosis with painting. In her most recent works (the cycle „Lush”) her geometry opens onto colour, fluidity and the organic. She has exhibited at, among others, the Aspekty Gallery, the Galerie Springer Berlin, the PGS in Sopot and the National Museum in Gdańsk.
