Łukasz Patelczyk

Łukasz Patelczyk (b. 14 February 1986 in Wejherowo) is one of the most important painters of the young generation. He received his diploma in 2012 at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, in the studios of Professor Teresa Miszkin and Professor Witosław Czerwonka. He lives and works between Warsaw and Bydgoszcz; his imagination, consistency and high-class craft are appreciated by Polish and foreign collectors and critics.

In his painting Patelczyk combines two orders: a classical, masterfully painted landscape - expanses of grasses, sky and mountains, like wide film frames - with geometric abstraction in the form of luminous signs, lines and ellipses towering in the sky and glaze-like screens that brighten or shade the space. The geometric shapes, as the artist explains, can be read as the presence of man and his interference in nature; in the cycle „Luminescences” they take the form of glowing neons fixed to the stretcher. He paints several series in parallel, including „Censored Landscape”, „Witchcraft”, „Passe-partout” and „Aura”.

Patelczyk is a laureate of many competitions: he took first place in the Compass of Young Art ranking (2021, and earlier ex aequo with Agata Kus in 2020), the special award of the Hestia Artistic Journey (2011) and the press award at the Bielska Jesień Biennale (2015). His works have been shown at numerous solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad - including the SLAG Gallery in New York, the Jan Tarasin Gallery in Kalisz, the Znaki Czasu Centre for Contemporary Art in Toruń and the Galerie Sandhofer in Salzburg - and are in the collection of the National Museum in Gdańsk and in private collections in Poland and abroad.
