Monstfur

MONSTFUR is the artistic duo of Bartłomiej Stypka (b. 1983) and Łukasz Gawron (b. 1985), which began its activity around 2006 in their native Częstochowa. The collective is engaged in activities in urban space - graffiti and stencil work - and in its small-format painting it uses old signboards, information boards, corroded sheet metal and cardboard as supports. The artists themselves describe their work as a „visual Polish horror” - a B-class film inspired by, and having its origin in, native reality.

MONSTFUR's works can be encountered in, among others, Częstochowa (the footbridge over the railway tracks, a city bus), Katowice (the Silesian Museum), Gdańsk (a mural in Zaspa) and Warsaw. The duo successfully transfers stencil street art from the street into the gallery and to art fairs; in 2015 they won the Grand Prix in the Stencil Art Prize competition organised by the Ambush Gallery in Sydney, and their work has appeared in publications devoted to street art, in the company of, among others, Banksy.
