Henryk Waniek practises not only painting; he is also engaged in stage design, among other things, but above all he is a prose writer. In literature he takes up fantastical themes often connected with the mysteries and cultural questions of Silesia understood within its broadest borders, that is, from Oświęcim to Zgorzelec. The artist is also an expert in esoteric matters, from which perhaps also stems the metaphysical tone that his paintings emanate. Henryk Waniek explores the dependencies that arise during an inner, spiritual „wandering” as well as an outer, physical one - such an approach links the artist's image with the word. The places evoked in his works, spaces built concentrically or symmetrically and full of symbolic elements, do not constitute a concrete landscape - they are rather a landscape of a state of the soul, which is then captured in his literary work. Henryk Waniek's artistic activity has a purpose, of which the artist himself speaks best: „(…) so let us rather say that I tried to make images visible. The results of these efforts varied - sometimes satisfaction, sometimes shame. If they were images of harmony, I gave myself top marks (…)”.
