Out of rebellion and opposition, out of a desire to explore and create, out of a need to create, the first avant-garde movements broke with tradition and academicism at the beginning of the 20th century. Then underground, now still breaking stereotypes about art and setting new definitions for it. Although they have moved into the ‘exhibition mainstream,’ they are still appreciated by critics, collectors, and art lovers. For over a hundred years, artists, curators, art dealers and scholars associated with Polish contemporary art have been able to follow themes important to the movements that emerged at that time – the Formists, the a.r. group, BLOK, Praesens, the Krakow Group and many others.The exhibition will feature works by artists such as Bożenna Biskupska, Tadeusz Dominik, Edward Dwurnik, Stefan Gierowski, Jerzy Kałucki, Henryk Musiałowicz, Natalia LL, Jan Lebenstein, Alfred Lenica, Jan Pamuła, Włodzimierz Pawlak, Henryk Stażewski, Leon Tarasewicz, Jan Tarasin, Jerzy Tchórzewski.
