Opis wystawy

MINIMALISM is making a comeback today with greater force than it had in the 1960s, remembered as the heyday of the austere avant-garde. When Ad Reinhardt and Donald Judd proposed their austere aesthetics, the path that led from Malevich's Black Square (1915) to Strzemiński's Unism was coming to an end. There was already a feeling at the time that what was called ‘post-modernism’ would take the form of a tsunami that would sweep away and disperse all unified and orderly tendencies in art. Movements, manifestos and artistic activities took on an intensity in the 1970s and 1980s that proved difficult to describe critically. The thicket of phenomena grew, and from this perspective, half a century later, the slogan of minimalism became a rescue and intellectual cure, writes Dorota Folga-Januszewska in the exhibition catalogue, and we are delighted to invite you to a detox for the eyes, mind and soul until the end of October 2025.
