The painting is one of a cycle of a dozen or so monumental gouaches found in the studio of the artist and teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Bogusław Szwacz made his debut in a difficult time for Polish art, when Socialist Realism dominated. After the death of Joseph Stalin and the onset of the so-called „thaw”, also in the field of the fine arts, he decided to devote his attention to abstract art, which in his view was absolutely universal. Thanks to a grant he obtained, he managed to travel to Paris in 1947. There he became a member of the group „Le Surréalisme Révolutionnaire” and established contacts with Fernand Léger, Édouard Pignon, Estève and Noël Arnaud. These two factors caused the artist, from 1955, to abandon figurative painting and to begin creating his own concept of Ars-Horme art - the „Art of Stirring the Imagination”.
