Alfred Lenica is regarded as the author of the first Tachiste canvas in Poland - the painting „Paint in Motion” (Farby w ruch) from 1949. He was one of the founding members of the Poznań artistic group 4F+R (Form, Paint, Texture, Fantasy + Realism). In 1948 he took part in the 1st Exhibition of Modern Art in Kraków. This painter from Poznań, a violinist by training, smuggled into his artistic work a love of the harmony of colours which, as Bożena Kowalska recalls, shaped the viewer's emotions: „Sometimes the harmony of colours alone can aptly convey a mood of joy, sadness or the terror of war, acting with great suggestiveness on the viewers”. The painter forms the painterly structure by means of freely dripping paints, splashes and spatters. He also experiments with other materials and techniques, such as lacquers and collage. To achieve his characteristic manner of painting, he uses tools that allow the precise picking-out of already-applied paint, thereby creating linear, freely shaped compositions. The 1940s and 1950s are the peak of the painter's creative and innovative formal solutions. Alfred Lenica's paintings intensify the viewer's empirical experiences.
