Cage I

Bożenna Biskupska is an artist who expresses herself in many forms of artistic statement: painting, sculpture, installation, photography and video. This variety of methods may stem from the dualism of her interests - painting and sculpture - each of which is developed separately. In the paintings from the Cage (Klatka) cycle, initially figurative and then set out by means of coloured lines, the artist successively simplifies the picture plane while narrowing the colour range. A certain reference to this cycle may be the performance carried out in 1999, when the artist drew vertical lines in linseed oil on the surface of the canvas, which over time yellow and change their form, spreading across the surface. The painting presented is a transitional moment between the One-legged (Jednonogi) paintings and the Cage.
