July Dilemmas, from the series: Workers

Edward Dwurnik's cycle „Workers” was created between 1975 and 1991. It comprises about 260 works, including drawings, prints and canvases. Such was the painter's working method - fast, hence also the expressive notation visible both in the graphic works and, even more so, in his painting. Edward Dwurnik's „Workers” are protesting figures, energetically speaking leaders, people queuing. The artist, like an evening television news bulletin, reports current national events, sometimes with anger, sometimes with contempt or admiration. At the same time he declared a lack of political engagement. „Now I already know that these mugs in my paintings, all these heroes, suckers, various beggars, fat women, thick, unhappy, pitiful, this whole human magma, this life so supposedly wonderful, this life so supposedly wonderful for humanists but so hideous, repulsive in essence - for the alienated aesthete it is nothing at all. It is a degenerate world, so it acts especially strongly on people who have certain >deviations<
