New York
Over the past year collectors had to pay much higher sums for Edward Dwurnik's works. His paintings enjoy enormous interest from buyers. In 2021 the artist's auction records were set: the painting „New York”, 2017, reached a price of 200,000 zlotys (excluding the auction premium; Polswiss Art, 09.03.2021); the painting MIĘDZYZDROJE - BEACH, FROM THE CYCLE „HITCHHIKING TRAVELS”, 1979, reached the same sum (Agra Art, 17.10.2021). In 1965, in Kielce, Edward Dwurnik had the chance to encounter Nikifor's works for the first time. The Warsaw painter was enormously impressed by the compositions he saw and decided to continue the work of the artist from Lesser Poland. On small pieces of paper Nikifor painted commemorative views of Krynica Górska. Schematically rendered public buildings, churches, Orthodox churches. In a specific way he built perspective, while at the same time emphasising the structure of the urban panoramas with a firm black line. In these realistic watercolours, seemingly painted quickly and freely, Edward Dwurnik perceived a unique synthesis of painterly form and an exceptional sense of colour. Nikifor's biography also influenced the artist's decision to lead the life of a wandering painter and, like the master from Krynica, to immortalise in panoramas the images of the places he encountered. „It is easier for me to paint than to speak. For me a painting is a form of expression; painting is my way of life, and it is not only that it is my way of earning a living - no, by painting I comment on reality and express myself. That is all.” (Edward Dwurnik)
