Mechano-facture

In 1923 Henryk Berlewi developed the theory of „Mechano-facture”, which assumed the rejection of the illusion of space in favour of rhythmicised, two-dimensional planes. Following the representatives of Dutch Neoplasticism, among them Piet Mondrian, and the artists known as Constructivists, represented among others by Kazimir Malevich, he decided that the composition of a painting should be built on the basis of elementary geometric figures and three colours: black, white and red. At the same time he assumed a mechanical selection of the figures used in the painting. Henryk Berlewi wanted to emphasise the rapidly advancing development of technology and to harness it in the visual arts. In 1925 he founded the Reklama-Mechano agency, which used the method of building compositions he had developed.
