In the late 1960s, after a period of metal reliefs, Stażewski created reliefs on fibreboard that were highly varied in composition, made up of coloured squares. In them he used the pastel, somewhat muted colours characteristic of his palette. The relief presented seems to belong to this series of works. One can discern in it the artist's typical way of laying paint with the brush in a very thin layer. (fragment from the expert opinion) „Stażewski's artistic stance derives from two philosophical traditions: rationalism and absolutism. Thanks to the first, art based on geometric-arithmetic laws was certain of the unlimited possibilities of the rational cognition of the world. The second tradition determined the conviction that aesthetics, in the course of its own development, tends towards the absolute. Art is able to capture the totality of the laws of the universe in a single rule.” („Stażewski internacjonał”, Andrzej Turowski, in: Henryk Stażewski. Ekonomia Myślenia, Warsaw, 2005, p. 47.)
