The 1960s in Kajetan Sosnowski's work could be regarded as advanced studies in chemistry, physics and optics. From 1965 the painter created the cycle „Empty Paintings” - monochrome works onto which paint is applied and rubbed in with the fingers. From 1965 he created the series „Polyptychs”, juxtaposing canvases with different intensities of complementary colours while at the same time entering into the question of luminous phenomena. From there it was but a step to the chemical paintings „Metalepseis” - works created from 1972, covered with cobalt oxide. These canvases react to atmospheric conditions, for example humidity, changing their colour properties.
