100 x 70 (4 sheets), 100 x 280 in total (…) I saw figuration slowly departing, the world defined by frames being set aside. It was not abstraction at all, but a record, a reduction, a synthesis of the world. In time the composition opened onto the walls, onto space (…) The stretcher ceased to exist for me, that magical stretcher from school, and the whole surroundings simply became a support. - Leon Tarasewicz. Małgorzata Czyńska, Nie opuszczam rąk. A Conversation with Leon Tarasewicz, Wołowiec 2021, p. 75. Leon Tarasewicz's serigraph dates from the turn of 1990 and 1991, when the artist, at the invitation of Paolo Cardazzo, took part in artistic workshops in Venice. It was then, among other things, that a cycle of serigraphs was created, presented at the International Biennial of Graphic Art in Ljubljana. It is worth noting that the motif of oval, concentric stripes suggesting, for example, a ploughed field, was also used by the painter in monumental canvases. One of them, from 1990, was presented during Leon Tarasewicz's exhibition at the Fahnemann Gallery in Berlin; another is in the collection of the Centre for Contemporary Art Zamek Ujazdowski; another, from 1993, is in the collection of the Warsaw Zachęta (inv. no. M-698). PROVENANCE: - private collection, Poland.
