Leszek Nowosielski sought his own means of artistic expression mainly in ceramics. He is known to design collectors as the author, together with his wife Hanna Modrzewska-Nowosielska, of the painted decoration of decorative plates, services and tableware. In the early 1960s he began creating his own models in clay, which brought him renown. From ceramic tile-plaques he formed monumental compositions such as „The Battle of Grunwald”, „The Battle of Vienna”, „The Battle of Legnica” and „Hiroshima”, now in the Hiroshima Memorial Centre in Tokyo. In parallel, the artist worked in painting, creating abstract, free compositions with an expressive structure and saturated colours. In 2016 an exhibition summarising the couple's artistic activity, „Atelier Nowosielskich. The Ceramic World of Hanna and Leszek Nowosielski”, was organised by the National Museum in Gdańsk. In Leszek Nowosielski's painting „there is no shortage of canvases depicting figural scenes, which perhaps more legibly than others show the sharpness of his vision of the world (…).
