Diary 06 III 2015 - 21 I 2015

In 1989 the artist began one of his most important painting cycles, „Diaries”, for which in 1990 he received the Grand Prix of the 22nd International Festival of Painting in Cagnes-sur-Mer. This cycle is an incredibly private, indeed intimate record of the passage of time. The formal devices, the texture and the uniformity of the composition are important, lending the works a monumental character, intensified by the very concept of counting passing time. Despite the repetition of elements, each work is unique. „Painting in solitude - placing ordered rows of seven strokes crossed out by an eighth, falling into a rhythm - was close to a meditation that suspends for a moment the passage of time and the reality around. >For a while I disappear, I am not there. Once this could last several hours, but now I give myself such holidays only a few minutes long
