We invite you to Marcin Chomicki's solo exhibition ‘Screen Tears’, which focuses on analysing the relationship between technology and the processes of memory and forgetting in contemporary culture. The artist uses an abstract painterly language to reveal the material traces of relics from the digital past – from early computer aesthetics to representations of data carriers such as floppy disks, cassettes and postcards – which are gradually disappearing from everyday experience. The works refer to the metaphor of memory erosion, visible in blurred structures, multi-layered surfaces and deconstructed forms. Instead of literal representations, Chomicki uses the poetics of traces, suggesting that technology – like memory – is slowly degrading and dematerialising. The exhibition develops themes familiar from the artist's earlier paintings and spatial works, deepening the reflection on how post-digital reality shapes our experience of time and the past. Despite the apparent coldness of the subject matter, the works exude a subtle emotionality, evoking a sense of loss and nostalgia. Screen Tears is both a poetic and critical meditation on the transience of technology, which until recently seemed permanent and obvious, but today is becoming the subject of contemporary anthropology – much like the artefacts of ancient cultures.
